Sculpture Wraps for Dallas' Into the Big-D Sweepstakes

We were called on by the AT&T Performing Arts Center to wrap two iconic Dallas statues in preparation for a new theater production coming to town - Into the Woods. The wraps were part of a promotional contest called the Into the Big-D Sweepstakes, which challenged locals to hunt for four photo-op locations throughout Dallas that comprised the spell at the center of the musical: the cow as white as milk, the cape as red as blood, the hair as yellow as corn, and the slipper as pure as gold.

The first wrap we installed, a representation of a “cow as white as milk”, is one of the 49 iconic steer sculptures in Pioneer Plaza (the largest bronze monument of its kind in the world). We temporarily transformed the bronze steer using Avery Dennison’s SWF Gloss White vinyl.

The second statue we wrapped was The Traveling Man for the Arts Center’s take on the “slipper as pure as gold”. We used Avery Dennison’s Diamond Amber (a gold vinyl with a glittering, metallic finish) to give the aluminum statue a shimmering slipper.

As artistic, iconic structures that are highly valuable to the City of Dallas, these wraps warranted the ultimate safety precautions - we avoided using knives to trim the vinyl, and our usual surface-cleaning solutions. And with unique surface texture, we wrapped using careful detail and special, non-abrasive tools to work the vinyl into areas of relief detail and over rivets.

It was tedious work, but we loved helping to make the city-wide promotion happen and were proud to show off the transformative power of vinyl! You can view more photos of these projects in our online Showroom.
